Tips for the holidays

The holidays are here again and many families will be going on vacation. Travelling is fun as long as nobody falls ill.

Here are some tips for a healthy and happy holiday:

Prepare, prepare, prepare
Nothing beats packing well and being prepared for all eventualities. In addition to proper attire for your holiday (be it outdoors or for cold weather) and basic medication for the flu, headaches and stomach aches, don't forget to pack a few sachets of Milo Fuze 3-in-1 or Nesvita 3-in-1 nutritious cereal drink.

A good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast will make all the difference to the day ahead.

If you're going on a road trip, make sure you stop along the way to stretch your legs, take a toilet break and even allow your kids to run around a bit.

Nobody likes stopping frequently for toilet breaks but it's important to drink enough water so that you don't become dehydrated. If you are buying packet drinks then go for something not so sweet; try the Milo UHT.

Your body needs your care

Just because you're on holiday doesn't mean you abandon all healthy living and eat anything and everything. Make sure you still maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Get ample exercise by going for walks, hikes and even swims. Keeping active will make you feel rejuvenated and less tired.

Readjusting to life

Returning from a holiday can be just as stressful. Most of us need time to readjust to our daily lives and schedules. Why not take a day or two to recover before going back to work so that your body and mind has time to adjust.

Not going on holiday

If you're not going away for a vacation, then make sure you get out of the house or apartment and get some fresh air and sunshine.

You can still have fun even though you're not going out of town. Try going for a picnic in the park or even a day trip to the beach or the local zoo.

There are many things you can do that's right around your neighbourhood. You will be amazed when you check around and find out about the fun stuff available nearby.

Why not arrange to have a potluck and barbecue with your family, friends and neighbours? Or visiting a nearby home for the less fortunate? You could also join local community projects like a neighbourhood cleanup (gotong-royong).

Whatever you choose to do, maintain a balanced and healthy diet and an active lifestyle this holiday season.
