PETALING JAYA: Iranian singer Namjoo Mohsen’s concert at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Friday has been cancelled.
“The Government disallowed the concert because it was not appropriate in terms of religion, culture and the country’s cosmopolitan nature,” said Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
In June 2009, a court in Iran sentenced Mohsen to five years in prison for ridiculing Islam and the Quran in his songs. He escaped jail as he was residing in Vienna.
Meanwhile, PAS Youth welcomed the decision. “Any artiste who holds any record for insulting Islam and performing shows that were sexually explicit should be banned,” Nasrudin said.
